QA HIGHER EDUCATION PREGNANCY PROCEDURE
What should I do when I know I am pregnant?
The first thing we would encourage you to do is to contact the Safeguarding, Student Life & Wellbeing Team who will arrange to go through a Pregnancy Wellbeing & Support Plan with you. The team will be able to support you throughout your pregnancy and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
You can reach out via email: qahe.welfare@qa.com
Phone call: 0203 921 0163 or by speaking to one of the team on campus.
What happens when I notify the Safeguarding, Student Life & Wellbeing Team?
The team will contact you to get some basic information from you such as your due date, emergency contact details and see how you are feeling about your pregnancy. We will then arrange to go through a Pregnancy Wellbeing Support Plan with you in person or over the phone to best understand how we can support you throughout your pregnancy.
When you reach 24 weeks in your pregnancy, we will arrange a phone call with you to check-in and see how you are doing. We may need to update the Pregnancy Wellbeing Support plan if there have been any changes since the last phone call. We can also schedule regular check-in calls and/or meetings with you, if you decide that it is something that you would find helpful – we can discuss this in our initial Pregnancy Wellbeing Support Plan meeting.
Once you have given birth, we will ask you to send us your discharge papers from the hospital to update our records and inform the Attendance Team. We will then arrange another phone call with you, known as the 'Return to Study' where we check in to see how you and the baby are doing, discuss your maternity leave and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
We can provide a one-month check in phone call after the Return to Study phone call to ensure that you and the baby are doing well, as we appreciate the big changes you will be going through, especially while balancing your studies.
